This DIY avocado body butter I created for my friend Julie – she has dehydrated and sensitive skin and asked me to make something soothing, nourishing, and deeply moisturizing.
This butter meets all these requests:
- It has a very velvety and non-sticky texture.
- It helps to lock up the moisture in the skin.
- It protects and restores our skin’s lipid barrier.
My friend is happy with the result, and so I decided to share this recipe with you as well 🙂
DIY AVOCADO BODY BUTTER
I make a lot of body butters – for myself, as gifts (it makes a fantastic gift!), and for sale. It is a great, 100% natural skincare product, a great alternative to commercial creams and lotions based on synthetic emulsifiers and fats.
I use shea butter and virgin avocado oil (both are great for dry and damaged skin). I added some tapioca starch to make the product less greasy and added a few drops of essential oils for a light green natural aroma.
Virgin avocado oil naturally gives the butter a slightly greenish color, but you can also add some green mineral mica (just a pinch) to make the color more pronounced.
HOW TO MAKE IT
It is a whipped butter (I have shared before the recipe for Mom&Baby body butter – check it out). I have melted all the ingredients and then whipped them while cooling down. Shea butter is a tricky ingredient; you have to work with it carefully; otherwise, it will begin to form naughty white grains in your whipped butter after several days.
Nothing dramatic: your butter is not spoiled and you can still use it, but I prefer to make it the right way so that my butter keeps its nice and smooth and velvety texture without any grains forever.
I share the recipe and show how to make this DIY avocado body butter in my short video – check it out!
